Many people love a campervan adventure, especially if you are heading somewhere new or off-the-beaten track. But before you go, you should spend some fitting out your van with a range of essential and fun accessories.

Portable shower

Due to space constraints, most campervans aren’t equipped with showers. This means that you’ll need to look for camping sites that have amenity blocks with showers. Luckily for you, there’s plenty of campsites throughout the UK that offer these facilities.

However, a portable shower, especially if you plan on wild camping, is a great addition to a campervan trip. There are multiple kinds on the market, including solar-powered for heat and some with battery-powered pumps.

Personalised licence plates

Licence plates aren’t exactly an accessory, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t go out of your way and have fun with them. Personalised plates are common with cars, but not as such with campervans.

You can register for personal licence plates on your own by dealing with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), but filling out the forms can be a hassle.

Instead, you can get your customised plates here for a fuss-free process which still complies with the regulations set by the DVLA.

Sat Nav

Sat-navs for motorhomes are much more complex than the GPS unit you have on your phone for cars. They may cost a lot, but they come with a ton of features. Many allow you to input your vehicle’s dimensions so that it chooses routes that larger vehicles can go through while avoiding congested roads, while other sat-nav units offer lifetime automatic UK map updates for free so you’re always on the best route.

As these can be quite an investment, be sure to do proper research on which sat-nav unit that works for you and your campervan.

Thermal blinds

These are great to have because you can use them in any season. Thermal blinds help to insulate the van and keep you warm and toasty during the winter, and cool during the summers by reflecting the sun out.

However, be aware of the different types of thermal blinds available on the market and make sure you weigh the pros and cons of each kind. I like these thermal window shields.

Bedding or sleeping bags

Choose bedding in bright colours or funky designs to bring warmth and colour to you van interior. Remember to ensure you buy high tog duvets and sleeping bags because it can be cold overnight in a van.

Crockery and cutlery

A must-have accessory if you have a cooker in your van, crockery and cutlery should be made of non-breakable materials, such as plastic or metal. Why not add some fun by buying crockery and cutlery that has funky designs. You can even buy items with a campervan design.

Van bunting

Bunting attached to the inside of the van makes a fun accessory. You can even buy bunting that is in the shape of a VW campervan or have a campervan design.

Cushions and rugs

Add comfort and colour to you van interior with cushions and rugs. It is a good idea to buy products that can be machine washed when you get home.
